A few dedicated animal scientists from Asia sat together during the Third World Buffalo Congress held in Italy in the year 1992 and decided to form the Asian Buffalo Association (ABA), since buffalo is an Asian animal. The over-riding idea was how best to utilize the Buffalo in the Asian scenario from time to time to provide nourishment to the teeming millions at low cost. Buffalo milk being rich in protein and fat, and the animal known for efficient utilization of crop residues, needs an immediate Asian focus.
